Motorcycle Insurance

Get covered by a top UK insurer.

Once the favourite fun ride for young tearaways in leather jackets, bikes nowadays seem to be ridden by those same one-time tearaways who are now respectable pillars of society - but still with adrenaline coursing through their veins!

UK Motorbike Insurers

Bennetts

Bennetts are brokers who have been around for about 90 years, have about 170 staff in two offices, and they insure something like 200,000 riders. Any policyholder gets free membership to their BikeSocial Club; this provides competitions and social events (all with motorbike themes of course) as well as discounts on many parts, spares, kit etc. Bennetts were the first people to sell bike insurance completely online with a quote-and-buy service, they have run training days, sponsored races and riders, organised safety campaigns, and they curently sponsor the The Bennetts British Superbike Championship. The company is owned by Saga PLC; hardly surprising looking at the number of riders over fifty.

MCE Insurance Symbol

MCE

MCE Insurance Ltd started life in 1975 as M. C. Edwards (insurance Brokers) Limited and they are still independently owned. They claim to be the UK's no1 bike insurer but this is because of a report by consumer review site reviewcentre.com in 2016 so that may be a little out of date. Their standard policy covers not only road risks but breakdown cover, personal injury, and helmet and leather too. Up to five bikes can be included on one policy and they can arrange cover for fast food delivery riders, whether for single riders or a fleet. Delivery insurance is more costly than conventional bike insurance because of the much higher accident rate, but those working without are committing a criminal offence and risk not only a large fine but seeing their bike seized by the police too.

Devitt Insurance Symbol

Devitt

Devitt started up in 1936, selling motorbike policies through the dealers that sold the bikes. This was quite a new idea at the time and it was popular because for the first time a rider could go into a shop, buy a bike then ride it home legally. They have sponsored racing teams; biker cafes; a charity called The Bike Experience that helps disabled bikers; a charity called SERV (service by Emergency Ride Volunteers) which delivers medical supplies, such as blood, to the NHS and other health related charities; and numerous others. They have three levels of cover; a basic one, an intermediate one that also covers RAC breakdown and legal expenses cover, and the top one, which also includes personal accident, leathers and helmet.

Carole Nash Insurance Symbol

Carole Nash

Carole Nash first started selling insurance for vintage motorbikes from her kitchen table in 1985. Now the company has over 400 staff, serving over 220, 000 policyholders, and in year ending December 2019 they turned over more than £22 million. They encourage their staff to develop an enthusiasm for all things motorbike and they have teamed up with a personal injury legal firm to help injured policyholders get suitable compensation when appropriate. Over the decades they have supported many motorcycling and local charities. They will cover street bikes, off roaders, scooters, quads, tourers (like Harleys) trikes, superbikes, trail bikes, vintage, classics and even custom machines. Homestart and breakdown cover (UK and EU) are included in standard policies.

The Bike Insurer Symbol

The Bike Insurer

The Biker Insurer is run by Vast Visibility Limited, a company that began in 2006 as an insurance and technology company. In the year ending February 2020 they turned over more than £16 million. They sell motorcycle insurance only and perhaps uniquely amongst the larger bike insurers they don't sell any other insurance product, and they have a panel of 40 or so brokers which they say is more than any other company can call on. Apart from yearly policies they can insure a bike for a single day up to three months. Riders have to be over 21 and most bikes from small scooters to superbikes can be covered. Breakdown cover, personal injury and kit is not covered as standard but are optional extras. Laid up bike cover, for bikes that are not going on the road for some time, is available for between six and 12 months to cover them for fire and theft only - but NOT for third party risks.
