One or two minor convictions are unfortunate because they are likely to push up your premiums. Serious ones, though, particularly criminal ones, can make insurance difficult or even impossible to get, at anything like an affordable premium. This is where brokers who specialise in finding insurance for convicted drivers can come in very useful.
First set up in 1989 this company has been completely independent of any insurer from the outset, meaning no bias on where they place their business (not that there should be anyway!). They have always specialised in finding competitive quotes for motorists who have had convictions or driving bans, as well other more non-standard policies, such as modified, imported or high performance cars. Every conviction is of course different, as is every circumstance under it was committed, which means that online quotes are not the best way to proceed, so you will invited to chat over the phone to an experienced advisor who will help you as much as possible to find the right policy at the right price. In July of 2021 they had a five star rating on trustpilot, with 94% of respondents rating them as excellent.
Acorn Insurance and Financial Services Limited was first set up in 1982, so they have over 40 years experience in providing policies for people who have had difficulty getting reasonable quotes, such as drivers with convictions and motorists with vehicles that are more difficult to insure. They have their own underwriting team working with Haven Insurance of Gibraltar, and they help other insurance brokers find policies formotorists in high risk postcodes, those whose vehicles have been impounded, motorists who been refused elsewhere for any reason and those with a bad claims history.
At the other end of the spectrum Sale Insurance Services is a smaller company with around nine employees. They are a private limited company, incorporated in 2003, and it is family run. Nevertheless they have Coverholder status at Lloyds of London; this means that they can make insurance contracts which can be underwritten by a lloyds syndicate. In other words, they enjoy a high level of trust. They again specialise in difficult to find policies including those for people with criminal convictions, cancelled insurance policies. If you prefer to deal with a smaller company rather than a huge multinational, they may be worth considering.
