In the year ending March 2020 it turned over more than £9.5 million with a profit of just over £1.9 million and with no long term debt it is likely to be around for a long time yet. They are underwritten by Royal Sun Alliance and offer insurance for touring and static caravans, American recreational vehicles (some other insurers refuse to cover these), chalet and holiday homes, campervans, home and car insurance. 85% of Trustpilot reviews rate them as either excellent or great. It is possible to insure for up to 240 days European cover.
cover4caravans is a department within an insurance brokerage going right back to 1946, which in December of 1997 finally became a limited company, Alan Blunden & Company Limited. Initially they were local insurance brokers - and still are - but they have also specialised into a number of areas, one of which is insurance for touring or static caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents and folding caravans. This is no online-only business; they are a little old fashioned (as you'll see from their website) and they encourage policy holders to keep in touch with them by speaking to real live people, not artificial 'intelligence' bots. Don't think that they are a tiny outfit though; in the year ending March 2020 they turned over nearly £17.5 million.
The Camping and Caravanning Club first saw the light of day in 1901 and with over 700,000 members it is not only the oldest but also the largest club for campers and caravanners. It is a non-profit organisation so there are no shareholders to cream off any profits, just members who can benefit from better prices and facilities. Arranging insurance for the members was a natural development and this is conducted through Kingfisher Insurance Services Ltd (previously Vantage Insurance). The policies are designed for members by members and those who successfully complete a caravan manouevering course arranged by the club can qualify for a discount of up to 10%.
Ripe Insurance Services started life in 1998 selling insurance for golfers. Right from the start they avoided the routine insurance products of car, van and home and branched out into unusual but still necessary specialist products such as insurance for DJs, cycling, extreme sports, music, photography and even drones! This divergence from the norm has proved successful and they now claim to have over a quarter of a million policyholders. Their policies are underwritten by insurance giant Aviva and they guarantee to refund the difference if you find a policy elsewhere at a lower price. Members of recognised camping clubs can expect a discount. They sound like a good company to work for too!
Shield Total Insurance claim to be one of the fastest growing intermediary providers of outdoor leisure insurance in the UK, covering not only caravans, residential park homes and holiday lodges, but log cabins too. Being fast growing is not always a good thing though and there have been complaints about communication problems. To be fair this has been a common problem for many businesses during the Covid pandemic and apart from this niggle customes seem to have been generally pleased with their prices and service. The business is a part of Kingfisher Insurance Services Limited who also provide policies to other entities such as the Camping and Caravanning Club.
